Hello csp community & devs,
Long time competitive goldsrc counter-strike player here. Just tried your latest 1.08 client and I am very impressed in the direction this game is going.
There is definitely a 1.6 feeling there, the movement, jumping and spray are very close to the original - and even playing on a server with 80 ping the game still felt playable, where as on 1.6 it would of been horrific. Obviously there are still a few bugs but that is too be expected, I wont list them here as I'm sure they are well known.
As you may or may not heard, there is a lot of uncertainty with 1.6 and future 1.6 competitions at the moment. We have heard for years and years that cs is dying - which still doesn't ring true now as a lot of people still play the game, however for competitive cs it doesn't look too good.
Mousesports have got rid of their cs team, zonic and cArn have retired. Zonic has stated that he finds the future for 1.6 bleak, and therefore decided not to continue. Although this may not seem a big deal to some of you, I can guarantee this will not be the end of cs gaming divisions and professional players quitting. As we have read and seen, CS:GO does not look like it can cater for the competitive community, despite pleas from various professional players.
I truly believe csp will be competitive counter-strike's saviour (assuming development continues at a good rate, which has been your downfall in the past). And now that TF2 F2P and people can obtain this game for free is perfect for attracting the casual gamer base as well (good competitive scene is reliant on a strong casual player base).
Once this game is ready for a non-beta release, I hope there are funds somewhere to start a strong, grass roots marketing campaign. But I feel now is as good as time as any to start communicating with gaming teams, event organisers and sponsors to help try and create partnerships and anticipation for this game.
If you are reading this and have not tried the game, I urge you to check it out, then forward it onto your friends.
Sorry about the lack of fluidity in my post, just wanted to try and get my main points across without spending too long trying to articulate my post
