    120hz

    With monitor that is capable of doing 120hz, should I use fps_max 0, 121 or any other value?

    What about mat_vsync? Should I use that instead?

    Doesn't vsync cause input lag?

    OK

    One more thing, why is fps_max 0 better then 121? Is there really a difference if it goes above that? Isn't steady fps better then when the fps is all over the place?

    • mat_vsync 1; fps_max 0 -> a slight chance to get input lags on some systems, no frame tearing effect
    • mat_vsync 0; fps_max 0 -> you see the newest frame faster by miliseconds if your system is capable of rendering them, a chance near to none to get the input lag
    • mat_vsync 0; fps_max 120/121 -> this will not stop the tearing effect and will not get you to see the image faster like in the previous/ upper case
    • mat_vsync 1; fps_max 120 -> will limit fps count to your monitor hz or fps_max value depending on which value is lesser
    • mat_vsync 1; fps_max 121 -> it's pointless on 120hz to set fps_max above refresh rate

    Since running speed, defusing, recoil and all other things are NOT fps dependant like it is in 1.6 there should be no big diffirence in gameplay no matter how much fps above 100 you got. At least 100 is need to have full cmdrate of 100 because cmdrate can be capped by your fps and thus give you ocasionally bad hitreg on the source engine etc. (pretty rare).
    The faster your machine's renders the image the lesser dealy there is between what happens in game and what is shown on your monitor. Basicly the more fps the faster you can see the enemy.

    With mat_vsync 1; fps_max 0; won't I also have effect that you mentioned at point 3? (not seeing image faster)

    Yes, I thought that is obvious and just wrote my reply as fast as I could.

    I'd recommend you mat_vsync 0; fps_max 120/121 -> no input lag and some filtration fps drops
    1.09 will be released before/around CS:GO's release date as there isn't all too much to finish off (contrary to Yuri's opinion) - Saul 6/7/2012
