    The CSPTV/Models update!

    Hey everyone!

    [WARNING]
I'd just like to preface first that all you see is a work in progress and subject to changes, so don't be alarmed just yet.

I know we're kind of all over the place these days with news about the game but I'm really excited about what we're going talk about now. If you remember a few days ago, I said on the forums and especially in the csptv suggestion thread that I'd be posting my devlog about it and show you guys the concept I've worked on and where I'd like to take things in that area as well as get feedback from the community and look for ways we can improve it. I know the CS community is very harsh when it comes to subjective matters (and change, yeah ) and the answers will probably be all over the place but at least it'll help us regardless.

Alright, enough with the talk and more with the picturse as I know you guys like that a lot more than a wall of text.

    Original

This is my current concept for the CSPTV. There is no multi-POVs or that kind of stuff yet (like you've seen on some of the community concepts) because that's not really our aim for it just yet. In the future though, it most likely will be the case. So as you can see, it's reminiscent of the old style used in the biggest CS 1.6 LANs and I tried to integrate new elements to it, like having a dedicated space for the bomb/defusekit/health indicator and make sure the important elements stand out. Right now, the icons I have for the concept are not final and I'll most likely tweak them further as we go forward. Most importantly, I tried to make it look a bit nicer and give it enough spacing so it's not all cluttered and without "air" as I'd say.

At the top of the screen, the left side displays the name of the player you're currently following the right side is a dedicated space for a logo (be it league, lan, sponsor, etc...). Once the CSPTV feature is live in the game, I'd like to make sure I have the logo of all the major lans, leagues so I can integrate them myself within the game to gain time.

On the opposite side, the bottom of the screen, you got the rounds counter with the timer right above and now you're probably wondering what the little circles on the side are there for. Well, it's pretty simple... it's a simple display of previous maps won or lost (useful for BO3). Then, you've obviously got each team names on the sides along with their respective country flag. As usual, the UI will scale accordingly for widescreen users just like we've done with all UI elements so far.

    Revision 2

-----------Here is a list for the updates made to the latest CSPTV concepts
    -----------Added spectators count.
-----------Added small borders to players health bar to help distinguish their full life frame width.
-----------Made POV player gui bar green as a graphic cue.
-----------Tweaked the icons for all bars a bit, still WIP.
-----------Top bar is now attached to the edge of the screen.

    Revision 3

-----------Here is a list for the updates made to the latest CSPTV concepts
-----------Added timer in the bottom bar.
    -----------Changed alignment of team names.
-----------Made POV player gui bar greyscale.
    -----------Swapped top and bottom bars.
    -----------Tweaked score bar.

    Revision 4

-----------Here is a list for the updates made to the latest CSPTV concepts
-----------Added an armor bar at the bottom of each player.
-----------Added generic death notice at the top right.
    -----------Made all player bars smaller.
    -----------Made POV layer bar orange.
-----------Timer is back at the top with it's own module.
    -----------Tweaked score bar.

    Mini-Overview TEST

    Final revision

-----------Here is a list for the updates made to the latest CSPTV concepts
-----------Added armor icon to the player nickname (bottom left)
    -----------Added POV follow icon (arrow).
-----------Added Bo3 map status text (Map X of Y).
    -----------Added timer icon (clock).
    -----------Added C4 timer (red+bomb icon).
-----------Aligned team names to the side for balance purposes.
-----------Made armor bar color coded (teal CT / orange T).
    -----------Made priority list for icons.
-----------Redesigned Bo3 map won icons (circle + number).
-----------Timer is between scores, has now more info.

    --- MODELS ---[/center]

Second part of this devlog obviously, is models. You've probably read or seen the news post concerning our latest recruit (richyb, 3D Modeler) and now everyone is assuming he's working on weapon models but that's actually not the case. Not yet at least.

We had him do a few things to see what he was capable of first and see if he'd fit in within the team and if he had the same vision we have for the game and this is the result. I'd like everyone to keep in mind that the models you're about to see were done in just a few days time and have to go through more polish to make sure it's all perfect before we put them in the game but I'm sure we can all agree the results are promising!

Here are the two models he's currently working on and yes before anybody starts flaming and asking why he isn't working on the player models, well the reason is simple he's not really a character modeler but if we can't find anybody to fill in that position, we'll certainly have him and mazzer work together on them. We can't really afford to keep the current one without tweaking for obvious reasons but I will no get into that in this devlog.

    Anyways, here they are:

And... that should do it for now. We'll keep you guys posted on further developments via the developer logs, the update site and the forums. Please post your feedback, ideas, bugs in the corresponding forums.

    Cheers!

Looks good. I'm wondering how would the csptv look like the on pubs though ? Some elements such as "players status" and map won are likely to be hid I guess ?

Congrats to richyb as well, let's hope you'll find someone to work on the player models, pretty much the priority to me.

CSPTV concept looks awesome, good job alba. Maybe you could make the logo space a server cvar, so that people can link or upload their own pictures? That way clans can have their logo, HLTV and broadcasters can have theirs, events can have theirs etc. For some reason I also find it a little too much. The GUI is taking up to much of the viewport. Remember that graphics are there to accomodate, but what people is really there to is the gameplay. Except for that, as I previously stated, great job yet again.

I'm not that much of a fan of the bomb though. I like the Sourcestyle C4 much better than the 1.6 one, and it looks much more professional. My personal opinion is that you should make something more in the lines of this one. You know, it LOOKS like a bomb. Not just a brick with wires on it, like the 1.6 and your concept.

Obviously once we got a prototype working in-game, the goal is to make sure it takes as less space as possible but still is clean enough to understand. I always do my concept on a 1024x768 scale and then we always adapt in-game when we test so yeah, it should probably come to something a bit smaller, especially the health bars since we need to agree on a certain amount of character for nicknames and so on but all of that will come in the technical part of implementing it
