    Ambient Oclusion, the 16bit of Source Engine

    Hi CSPROMOD developers, im here to post something that has not been here on before (i used the search of the top).

    Currently many CSS players use this graphical option (im not going to show you how to do it), it only works on NVIDIA cards. This option enables "extra shadows". When a smoke is thrown in the map you can see any shadows that are behind.

    Here is an image about what im talking about:

    We need to block this, its an option that some games have (hl is not supported, but hl2 is). Developers, you need to make a kind of check of the drivers options to see if this is activated or not.

    This will ruin all competitive gaming of CSPROMOD. I mean, whats the point of doing a competitive mod when you can basicly ruin most of the strats when you can see smokes and have full advantage, i mean, the only solution would be that we all have it active (pointless throwing a smoke then) or disable it.

    Everyday more players in CS Source use this in competitive gaming leagues like ESEA or ESL and their anticheats cant block or know if its active unless you see screenshots and still it is still legal (no one gets banned/penalty points because of this).

    can this option turned off during game w/o quiting it?

    if not, the best thing to do untill its fixed
    for leagues: rule of making a smoke ss.

    No, im not sure if your "nooky" the german player, but anyways incase ur not its an option that has to make source restart.

    But yes, smoke screenshots could be the simple solution, but we should avoid it been enabled so you avoid people who use it in mixes.

    no im not the german superhero nooky.
    if you would have seen me play cs1.6, you'd know

    and yeah this solution is meant to be a simple annoing fix untill the DEV team manages to fix this one.

    but keep in mind its only a solution, when the option cant be disabled/anabled when ingame.

    It's known on the forum and in CS:S, the original post discovering it was found here and the solution can be found here

    "the AO global setting (which lacks a neutral option and therefore overrides any application specific settings) is saved in a registry entry named "D3D_AO_MODE" in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetControlV ideo"

    the default value is "00 00 00 00"

    00 for the first pair = off
    01 = low
    02 = medium
    03 = high

    i don't know what various league clients are specifically capable of, but they should all have the ability to detect this setting at the least, and advanced clients may be able to automatically force it to 0

    to those with the power to do so, please do so

    Enlighten a horrible noob, tell me where I can find this "D3D_AO_MODE"?
    I've got it on a comp of mine but I can never turn it off playing on it, I turn "Omgeving occlusie" on t he video card settings off but it doesn't make a difference. GTX 8800.
