Well I started revamping train about a week ago and have made some progress. Since I made inferno like CSS as far as asset wise i decided to do the same with train. Nuke i think will be different as I have an idea for that but css train visually was good, but was executed wrong. here's some pics of the progress for you diehards.

I'm diggin the lighting in the tunnels of 4,5 and 6. I always thought it was rather dark in there.
I can't wait to see what you do with the inside site, although I feel that it should be a little darker, kinda like a storage area.

kay thats a lie from you eLusive, i think it needs more details aswell but not to many so you can keep it old school.

What do u want? It to look like CS:S de_train? Where u get distracted of all the eye candy or an "easy on the eye, well visualy approached, aim for great competition" map?

Maybe, but he's right.

Cashed's maps are beautiful because they are simple, clean, elegant and play well. And I'm sure he'll add more detail to non-gameplay area just like he did with 'ferno ;)

And I'm sure he'll add more detail to non-gameplay area just like he did with 'ferno ;)Not only are they clean and elegant from a gameplay perspective, I think I'm not alone in saying they genuinely look nice, and not just because I'm used to the oldschool efficiency of CS 1.6 maps. Simply put, realism is not synonymous with eye candy. Looking at some of the screenshots in that GotFrag gallery (particularly Train and outside on Nuke), I really see a vibrance that puts TF2's best environments to shame.

I haven't played a lot of CS:S, so I don't know how much of the credit should go to cashed and how much of it belongs to the textures he already had to work with from the Source maps, but seeing all of those screenshots together for the first time has boosted my confidence in the artistic direction of this project.

If you want maps without details, then you don't need to play CSP.


CSProMod aims to incorporate the best of CS 1.6 and CS:Source in one, feature-packed version. With 1.6-style gameplay and Source graphics, we hope and strive to re-unite the CS community.Source graphics ! That means it should be as nice as CSS, and as playable as CS 1.6... Detailed maps can be playable...

Unless your a complete moron that can't get focused on anything because there something else in your sight details has no effect on the aiming, or at least the 2 first times you play the map ... Stupidest point I ever seen.

I'm trying to push the community little by little to a respectable source quality map. its taken a few revision of the maps but i think ppl are accepting them now. If you can adapt to a new 1.6 map what difference is it to a well known 1 that has visual upgrades?

I just can't agree more. Besides I want to add that's it's almost impossible to make a map look good if you decide to keep it exactly just like it is in 1.6 For example, when you posted the first screenshots of your new inferno, some people said, "yeah it looks really good but this wall wasn't exactly like that in 1.6"
That really doesn't change anything to the gameplay.

As long as the layout remains the same then I'm all for it! It is when mappers start to add clusters o details on maps, for ex, burning cars in the middle the road @ long @ dust2. Or other stupid stuff like the fountain in CS:S inferno.

As long as the layout is kept clean and eye candy is only added to non gameplay areas (with moderation), then like I wrote, I'm all for it.

Another thing, the small pilars added on the short wall on csp_inferno @ banana, that for me isnt necessary at all. That building @ banana is just one big house, instead I'd add some nice looking (regular) windows on that short wall.

Better to release several versions with the final being the perfect one, than releasing 1 final and going back to correct stuff several times. People work from the bottom up, not the other way around.

Couldn't agree more... Id rather test the stuff constantly and fix bugs rather than having to update within a day of release (FM09 etc)

The first screen show the direction to go to the A side. But in fact we arrived on the B side like showed in the 3rd screen ! So there is something contradictory...

I know you can modify it, so fix it ;)

cashed you need to change the lighting. right now it looks like the overcast source lighting (env maps included). the white blricks also create a more overcast feel. it would be awesome if it was sunny like 1.6.

Agree, the map would be much better with the lights set like 1.6. It would give me the 1.6 feeling back instead of the cold boring white map :)

As you see the 1.6 one is much brighter :)

the light in 1.6 sucks xD
its just older and a little more yellow.
goldsource engine isnt as good as the source engine is with handling lights. thats why it will never look like 1.6 ^^

we just say "between tities" for the inner and "were fucked" for the outer one :D
