View Full Version : TO ALL 1.6 PLAYERS ABOUT SOURCE/NEW FEATURES

As you guys know, there have been many threads about possible css features in csp. Let's be completely honest, a good amount of these features are awful ideas if we wanna capture the essence of 1.6 competitive play.
However...if a decent source feature or even brand new idea comes along that is potentially better than that of 1.6, why not consider it? Because saying "it's stupid, we don't wanna make this game easy, go play source if you want that feature, etc." is ignorant if you ask me. All you have to do is give a good reason or example of a situation where this possible feature could ruin gameplay.
Even if it is hard to explain why it's better to keep it like 1.6, as long as you make somewhat logical sense and others agree with you, then I do think that is enough to conserve the old way since we know it (1.6 feature) won't make the game bad.
Though I do understand the mentality, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it". But, this game needs more of a boost then a 1.6 port with source graphics. I'm not saying to change a lot, but please be open to 'some' suggestions.
Let's not be greedy and do this for the future of CSP (not just for source players), and for all competitive players from other shooters looking to adapt a game.

I can't think of anything that cs needs, the only useful additions I can think of would be new maps and maybe some new guns? Although new guns would probably take a huge amount of time, it would be awesome. Maybe something to consider year(s) after releasing and updating promod, starting with some smg's that won't unbalance stuff :)
Any suggestions?

I'm sitting here and I'm trying really hard to think about something in source I'd like to see in promod, but to be really honest, there is absolutely nothing in source that should be in promod.. Crouching in Source is really akward since an update some years ago, when you're moving everything feels slippery and slow, deagles are way to powerful, awp'ing is really, really easy etc etc. And I'm actually playing source fulltime, everyday.. It's not about 1.6'ers being ignorant tbh, it's just that source didn't really bring anything new gameplay wise, it's all about the graphics really.
There you have it, an unbiased opinion of why you practicly shouldn't include anything from source, from a player that started with source, not the other way around. It's just my opinion though.

The moving doesn't feel slippery to me at all after playing years of with source. Crouching feels perfectly fine for me. I like the fast awping. 1.6 felt weird for me when I started playing it, now I play both games and they are both FEELING fine to me. Question for you: Why the hell do you play source if you don't like the feeling and you don't like the gameplay!? This all sounds very weird to me.

As he said, gfx.
What does CSS have what cs1.6 doesnt?
The Way something is coded
the Way something is looking
the Way something is Feeling
isnt Ã* feature...
Things like other guns other prices other options to ease the game ... I forgot what i was pointing at sorry Lok just saying the gameplay isnt Ã* Feature or the Way you slowdown when crouchibg (the slowdown itselfe is the feature)
i say the only Feature in CSS i Know is the ammo is automaticle buyed with weapon and the restock each New rownd
difference between CSS and cs 1.6 is Reals Small...
I don't Know what i was pointing at again ... Lol

ehh lol in source when you need to jump higher fx onto a box you need to crouch and then jump that TOTALLY sucks.
in 1.6 you jump and then crouch, to get on top of boxes.

So small that I must've missed it, my bad. Still doesn't explain why someone would play a game that feels "weird". Maybe it isn't available in his country like said above.

i play source full time and 1.6 on the side, and prefer 1.6
altho i started with 1.6 so yeah.
a reason could be because mates play it?

i play 1.6 more and more these days because my mates got into it.
also i'm tired of kids whining and screaming and talking about stuff that isn't about the game and such stuff all the time. feels like 1.6 people is more into the game instead of talking about everyday happenings so you can't concentrate. also i'm tired of being accused and banned from servers cause i manage to kill people

In 2007-08 or something Valve made an update, which resultet in players not being able to crouch as low as they did before, and as fast, watch a fragmovie from 07-08 and you'll see what i mean!
And to answer your question, I play because I enjoy the game, and I have alot of fun playing matches with my team - that's why I'm still around. The common thing about some fps players is that just because Source is different, It's bad. That's not what I'm saying at all, I like source, but when it comes to what CSP should take from Source, my mind goes blank.

No one is being ignorant in taking features from source or other games, its just that those features in source are so useless and destroy game play that nothing from source should be incorporated.
On the other hand ideas from other games could help...

I still find it strange that if you started out with source, the game feels weird for you. I do get the "friends" thing. Would you go 1.6 if your friends would follow you?

Most om my team mates has said they are going to give Promod a fair chance, despite the previous "let down" If you know what I'm saying. And with anything else, you get used to Source, and it is really a great game, but my love for the "1.6" feel will never go away! ;)

agree with OP and im a long time 1.6er, BUT. 3 things that i dont want changed and must not be touched if it wants to succeed in getting 1.6 community
1: keep 1.6 movement (jumping, running, walking, strafing, throwing nades, ladders etc etc) its good and far overpowers source.
2: 1.6 or 1.5 recoil either one or something close too
3: no gay cluttered shit in maps
after that i dont really care what is added tbh. i guess those three things i listed are about 95% of the game makeup but whatever lol :)
CS Promod is 1.6 on the Source Engine, we don't want any changement.
If you are not happy and want to build the ULTIMATE MIX BETWEEN 1.6 AND SOURCE, do it, but leave CSPromod alone please.

while i agree i also disagree. if i had it my way i would do the exact same with only some minor changes (making the smoke better so you dont get lame 16 bitters etc) and maybe a few other minor things.
but im willing to make or have some sacrifices to deal with if it means its going to bring back the community stronger and get some new faces joining. Making it just a 1.6 complete port to the source engine isn't going to do this imo.

Im assuming you havnt played cs back in its prime stages, and let me remind you this game has been alive for more than 10 years.
1.6 was the leading online game and set records, the only reason source even had any accomplishments was because direct tv wanted to make gaming big but vavle wanted money and only allowed them to use source. So alot of players switched for two reasons 1) newer graphics with the sacrafice of terrible game play , 2) the gaming sponsors were in source.
However let me remind you that once direct tv gaming show died (which was a terrible competition). Practically every pro player that switched to it switched back to 1.6, and as it stands today source is dieing more and more. Its pretty obvious source is nothing but a casual game and will never meet the standards of 1.6.
So heres the bottom line make it a 1.6 game port and get back to how 1.6 was at its prime... after that we can discuss what we might want added or changed but right now this is a 1.6 game port. The facts dont lie.
I think but I want to stress out that is purely my opinion and mine only since I seem to be the resident 1.6 fanboy on the dev team. I believe that the improvements to bring from "source" are pretty much all about looks and not gameplay. There are some tiny stuff that source does better I'd say like make characters reload their clip on respawn automatically and some other things. But to me 1.6 gameplay is something that has been stressed and tested and perfected for so long, the core gameplay mechanics should remain untouched. That said, obviously there are a lot of things that can be made better in the game and there are some good ideas in source, I'm not trying to bash source in any way, I believe they had good ideas but the overall package just seem lacking.

Why does it totally suck? I play source and now it's just natural to crouch then jump, after playing for so long, and it makes more sense doesn't it? You bend you legs before jumping to jump higher?
I'm not saying i want it in csp. Just saying, it doesn't "TOTALLY SUCK!@%#" it's not going to ruin the game.

Ive been around for 8 years. Your comment made no sense btw.
Here in Australia the source community is at least five times as big as the 1.6 community there are many countries with this the case. I know 1.6 is still strong such as in some euro ones still but that aside it IS DIEING nothing lasts forever. The point of my post was to add that some minor things can be incorporated in to satisfy the source community and also see new fresh faces come to the game hence making it stronger and a more popular game and all you wrote back was you haven't been in since the prime years?? then tell me a bunch of stuff i already know that is completely irrelevant to my post.

Both games are very small in Australia but as far as I'm aware 1.6 gets more LAN teams to every event than Source does these days.

Its hard to say really, cause in Europe, CS:S is HUGE. But here in the states I'd say its a 40[source]/60[1.6] split for how many teams make it to LANs, and it would only take one event to flip the tables on that too.
