View Full Version : Radio messages

I think that something should be changed with the radio messages.

I was thinking something along the lines of having an option to turn off the "fire in the hole" sound (or maybe have it as a selectable command instead of it automatically playing when throwing grenades) because usually you know who's throwing the grenade or not and it gets pretty obnoxious when you're trying to listen for an enemy and you hear FIRE IN THE HOLE two or three times. I guess it's sometimes useful but I personally don't like it so a on/off switch for it would be suitable for all. :mrgreen:

Also, I think putting the messages in the chat system is a pretty messy way of displaying the messages, maybe do something else with it? I dunno.

One more thing, you know how sometimes you and your teammate goes like "Affirmative. Negative." over and over, and then one random time the thing goes "Roger that." instead of "Affirmative." and it just breaks the rhythm of it. I would like to see that changed too.

God I hate it when me and my mates are trying to keep rhythm alternating "Affirmative" and "Negative" and that damn "Roger that" comes in and ruins it. :x

Letting it bug you is all subconsicous anyways. As smartin has stated before, you should have it tuned out by now. The only reason it bugs you is cuz you tell yourself it bugs you. Focus on playing the game, not if/when the radio messages will pop up.

lol, jsut my opinion anyways ;)

..You can pretty much slap that response onto any suggestion given.

IMO I think it's an improvement to the game. I seriously doubt 'tuning out the annoying fire in the hole sounds' is a skill required to play CS, seriously? That's a lame excuse

I think it helps with timings.

But again, just my opinion. I think having the it enabled/disabled as a personal option is a great idea.

And we are talking about a generic sound, it's specific. So, no, you can't slap it to any suggestion. Unless every suggestion given is about annoying sounds? If you read my comment without knowing that we are talking about petty sounds, then yes, that is one lame excuse! Fortunately, we're aware of the topic and what the statement is specifically directed at ;)

And no this part isn't meant to offend you, i'm trying to help with this suggestion:

Do you want "bomb has been planted" muted as well?

There is a "fire. In the hole" radio sound in cs?

Aww right tested it ... I never noticed it.

Close since it's already in.

No, you said "you should have had it tuned out by now"

What I said was you could slap it onto any suggestion to change a part of the game that's annoying, "oh, that huge black square that takes up half the screen, no don't change it, you should have tuned it out by now" (that isn't really in the game, I'm just giving an example).

Why would I want the "bomb has been planted" to be muted? The T's would always win because the CT's wouldn't know when to defuse :lol:

when a nade explodes near you, you know if it was coming from your mate or from your enemy. so you can tell if there are enemies near you

still, an on/off would be nice wouldn't it? it would be useful for demo playback and pubs.

ever done a flash rush? you know when your whole team flashes the shit out of the enemy? like when rushing banana and flashing b? now that's annoying to hear.

"FIRE IN FIRE IN TH FIRE IN THE HOLE FIRE IN THE FIRE FIRE IN FIRE IN THE HOLE" etc etc etc

The radio sounds don't make me angry but what about that:

(like everytime) what about a CVAR?

cl_radio_volume
0 = radio message sounds off
0.1 = quitely
0.2 = ...
...
..
1 = loud (standard)

True, but I'd still say you're more focused on succeeding with the rush (looking out for enemies etc) than to pay attention to the sounds being played.

i guess though it messed up for me as i couldn't hear the enemy pulling back and preparing to HE my team which i would be able to hear if the fire in the hole sound was lower

we were rushing banana i ran ahead to check while they were throwing and apparently while i was checking they had moved from side to CT without me hearing it and it led to them throwing 5 HE's at my team

Are you forgetting that this mod is for competitive play? If you'll be able to turn it off, then it will feel more like pub play as you cannot be sure that your message will be heard. So it should either be there or not.

But I like 'em, thou I'm not very skilled at using them.

there should be a cvar like s_radiovolume
so you can lower it or turn it off, for the ones who don't like it

I think its necessary, if you hear a flash or nade going off and you heard "Fire in The Hole" or look at the messages you can see that its your teammates. If not then you know to expect an enemy there.

To be honest, i tend to ignore the sounds, its more the messages i take notice of. Unless i hear a barrage of "FIRE IN THE HOLE" sounds then you can't ignore it but you know your teammates have seen an enemy and are trying to nade their asses.
