Might be a silly idea, but i'm just throwing it out there.
Perhaps implement a bomb timer that turns on once the bomb has been planted?
A countdown of sorts!

Thoughts?

I've always wanted this as well but seeing as how this is a competitive mod I'm sure that won't happen because knowing and not knowing the bomb time can easily make or break rounds.

It's another part of the game that people most likely won't want changed like having to buy ammo or dropping nades and so forth.

This is effective (read: non-game-breaking) in CoD4 and would be useful in public servers where the bombtimer may be non-standard. Obviously it would need to be a server-side cvar, but I think it's a worthwhile implementation. It would be nice if it was available as a client-side cvar as well for demo playback.

I'm sure most of the ppl here would say a big no no, why? 1.6'ers like myself feel that estimating the countdown of the bomb is part of the skillset you need. You can guess by the beeps, but you never know for sure (both sides, T's need to know when to peak to pick off defusers and CT's need to know when to fake defuse and when to run like hell)

edit: server-side cvar for pubs, sounds acceptable

I don't believe its worth the time it would take to put together all that. That's one of those aspects of the game that make it unique, the fact you have no actual countdown on your screen for the bomb, which provides a challenge and another skill to have to learn.
One thing you are forgetting is that this is also a spectator-sport of sorts. Most people that this is trying to reach out to will not know how much time is left on the bomb, and some sort of bomb timer would help them immensely even if it must be turned off for actual players.

It could be a cspTV side cvar that shows a bomb timer. Normally every good player knows the bomb timer, and does their own countdown during the round in their head, so it isn't needed for players. Really no need to dumb the game down. (other than for spectators that is.)

how exciting is it when the shoutcaster goes "He's going for the defuse, omg, what do you think can he make it?"
it adds tension.

Also if the spectator can see the pro player fake defuse at 7 sec, frag the spotting T then start defusing and just makes it. if you have the timer on screen you know he's going to make if.
if you don't you can live in with what the players are doing, respect them (even the T for spotting at 7 sec instead of 3 sec later), you live much more in the moment

I want to implant something similar to CSS, a flashing icon on tempo with the beeps but that's it, no countdown no nothing :)

but you can tell by the speed of the beeping of the bomb when it's gonna explode. if you start defusing with a kit when the fastest step just started you'll be able to defuse it... all you have to know

This is a god idea, but for wars this is a more ventage to CT's to kill others T's after to defuse.
PD: Sorry 4 my english.

A spectator side cvar would really do the trick IMO. It would really make the game just a little bit more spectator friendly for newer players. Then again this is all last priority and should be addressed after the official release of the game.

it would be nice for spectators. ESL-TV has a good hltv overlay, shows the bomb-timer + players (name, HP, kevlar, current weapon)

please finish teh game first .. after that we can talk about cspTV and spectator things

SORRY by saying "FINISH" the game... just concentrate for the first versions on the game (maybe there will be a cspTV-team? ;X)

Bomb timer would be nice.

I would suggest to make it in roundtimer. There are already some CS1.6 plugins what do so. Only also I would suggest to add flashing icon (the less time remaining - the faster it flashes [yellow/red, less time remaining - red stays more often]) on the left from the timer.

Think you should keep it the way it is, listen to the beeps and guessing whether you make it or not.

Because you'll have the advantage of going somewhere in the level while you can't hear the bomb and still see the timer.
You'll change the gameplay. So basically don't ^^

Some servers already own this mod, it's shit :P

Shouldn't have an on-screen bomb timer, will make things less exciting :)

albas blinking icon would be only possibility which worth the time to implement ;)

not a bad idea.

spectating would be better w/out any form of timer, just beeps. This is because it allows for the viewer to be in suspense during the defuse. A timer would eliminate that.

At least put a flashing icon so that players can know when the bomb is planted and about how much time is left (how fast its flashing).
