It was crazy last month with the website release. Its time for another one of these. :D

Alba had been crying for like a year that he wanted his 1.6 style crosshair scope implemented, and mizzack finally had some free time to make it happen for him.

This is selectable via a console command: cl_classic_scope 0/1

I also added a command to silence the click that happens on text chat, which some players didn't want:

A huge feature which is difficult to show with pictures we added is the ability to spam through model entities. Basically the wall spam code now allows the bullets to penetrate static props. Amogan spent a good amount of time figuring out how to make this work.

Our mapper cashed is now free to use whatever items he wishes in maps, without worrying about gameplay. Models for crates, train cars, pipes, pretty much whatever would be better suited as a model, can now be one. A good example of a trouble spot in our maps was the wheel sections of all the train cars were not spammable. Now they are :D

It opened up a lot of possibilities on csp_season as well, since that features a great deal of models in it, as it was originally designed for CS:S.

We aren't totally done working with the spam code, but right now its consistent and fair, which we like. With a few more tweaks it should be pretty exact to cs 1.6 behavior.

Many months ago, when I first started with CSP, one of my earliest friends on the beta team was smartin. He had a good eye for cs and favored 1.5, as I do. Once I started doing dev work, he came to me on IRC and said:

"Hey Mike, why doesn't CSP have ViewBob like 1.6 does?"

and I said, "What?"

After playing this game on and off for about 10 years, I never noticed there is a 3-4 unit up and down cycle to EyeAngle vector.

After a bunch of testing on the developer maps, I measured how much it should move, and how fast. It is in sync with the weapon bobbing. This is another feature on a long list of things not found in CS:S. Perhaps they didn't have time, didn't care, whatever the case may be I wanted this once I knew it was important to people. I coded this one, with amogans help.

I've taken some screenshots to show you how this works.

Thats done without moving the mouse or changing anything, only left/right straife along that wall. Its gives a pseudo illusion to vertical movement that would happen if you were actually running and has a nice 1.6 feel to it.

Another small feature I added this week was the ability to use old school style headshot death messages.
cl_classic_deathmessage controls this, took a screen to show it, it should also have a black border, its a WIP but its just a small touch for those who wanted it.

Another cool thing we have that I wanted to mention here is the ability to show an entire ace, up to 5 on the death messages. Assuming it happens fast enough, you can have some pretty epic screenshots. :)

Apart from that I've got a question: Is litterally everything in 1.6 wallbangable ? I just find it odd that even trainwheels are spammable :) (not that I care, I'm just curious).

Yeah, a lot of people would agree, but the dev team is less likely to do that I believe. Plus, gun handling, firing, and the punch/spread of the bullets of those guns are by far the biggest "thing" for me on CSPromod.

Yes it is, idd 1.6 isn't that realistic :P.

But it isn't possible to wallbang with the weaker guns. Like the mp5 and the pistols. (correct me if I'm wrong, it's 2 years ago for me)

If there are two crates or doors, no matter how thin they are, the bullets will only go through the first one, unless you're shooting with an awp, and the same thing goes for thick objects. If you shoot through a very thick wall with a rifle, no matter how thick it is, the bullets will go through as long as it's a single "object"; the damage is dependable on the thickness of the obstacle though, so if it's too thick the damage might be very low or even nonexistent (so there are walls that are too thick to be spammable with rifles).

Wow, I clicked this thread earlier today and read the second page without realising it was a new dev log. The new HUD looks much better the second time around, which means I'm getting used to it already I suppose (not that I ever suspected I wouldn't).

Also I'm pleased to be reminded about the 5 spaces for simultaneously displaying kills, this is something I suggested a long time ago and I was told it was already in CSP (I think it may have been on b1.03?), so I forgot about it, but it's a really clever little visual change which I think will be widely appreciated.

Nice post, the radar on the scoped pic looks a bit weird, I guess it's because that map doesn't have a 2D radar backgr yet?
*EDIT* realized it's a hud setting for the opaque radar... nice.... it's a cvar (I prefer the new style though)

It really depends on how the map was compiled, some walls are very thin but can't be spammed, while others are very thick but can be spammed easily. I read an explanation about it some time ago, but don't remember everything clearly. Adding a box on 1 side of the map can cause the whole map to be re-divided and some walls to become unspammable. The bsp compiler merges some objects that might look seperate, so even those wallbangs you can't really see unless you test them out yourself.

as for the penetration, I believe the p90 (SMG) also penetrates - but who cares really - it depends on ammo type. awm & deag share the ammo type, which is why the deagle can penetrate. (not in real life, just in cs)

(other guns that share ammo type are: UMP/USP - MP5/glock - famas/m4)
trivia: P90 is belgian btw, just like the para. FN = fabrique nationale in Herstal

This is correct, it has to do with how the map is made, sometimes walls are very complex despite being thin, and this can affect spams.

To those of you who say that the viewbob is something new and weird, it's not. It's been in counter-strike for as long as I can remember. Seriously, when you play 1.6, do you feel like it's an annoying thing? To be honest it just adds a more polished feel and depth to the regular bobcycle. Without it, the game feels a lot more "homemade".

As you can see, it's not very noticeable:

Subconsciously though, it does a lot.

good work but it seems like you're at a good point now to release 1.04 and let everyone run wild on it, thats the best way to find more bugs and get more input. once the bobcycle is done and the gun recoil is at a decent spot i think it would be smart to release it to keep people interested and continue improving the game at a fast rate. also when you do release it let everyone know that you're still working on it and there will be improvements in the future on the more aesthetic parts to the game like the 1.6 hs death animation so people know that it is still being improved upon. if you release a game that feels pretty much like 1.6 with better graphics and let people know its still being worked on you will convert a lot of people right there, and i'd probably be one of them.

I like the original tbh. The brighter white just pops out so you don't have to strain your eye's at all.

I'm still working on the weapon selection but gray won't fit the overall style I have the HUD. I want to use some gray for the empty slots and a specific color for overlay selection but white works best for now.

Do you know if the bob is effected at all when you change from running to walking? Does it disappear, slow down, slow down + bob less? Same goes for crouch moving.

I don't have cs on me right now to check for myself.

i don't have source installed so i can't check but does source have the effect when your crouching on the edge of something, you slow down (if you look straight down you see it's exactly when the cross-hair goes over the surface that you slow down) ? just thinking, since this is something you might easily miss but i'm guessing it's already in 1.03 or source anyway. just let me know.

No they didn't bother to put crouching edge friction in either I'm afraid. I had an alpha version of that effect at one point, but thats very WIP. Its on the to do list, another must have from 1.6.

Small question, when swaping weapons on source i use my mousewheel up and down, and it switches to the next/previous weapon straight away without the weapon menu comming up at the top of the HUD. Can i do this in CSP?

if you type hud_draw 0 the deathnotice is also disappearing!

in CSP it would be better to have CVARs that remove the HUD but not the deathnotice ;)

would be good if there was a net_graph mode which shows: fps, ms, loss and choke
net_graph is only forbidden because of the in- and out-values, from which you can tell if there are some enemies coming near you

Many months ago, when I first started with CSP, one of my earliest friends on the beta team was smartin. He had a good eye for cs and favored 1.5, as I do. Once I started doing dev work, he came to me on IRC and said:

"Hey Mike, why doesn't CSP have ViewBob like 1.6 does?"

and I said, "What?"

After playing this game on and off for about 10 years, I never noticed there is a 3-4 unit up and down cycle to EyeAngle vector.

After a bunch of testing on the developer maps, I measured how much it should move, and how fast. It is in sync with the weapon bobbing. This is another feature on a long list of things not found in CS:S. Perhaps they didn't have time, didn't care, whatever the case may be I wanted this once I knew it was important to people. I coded this one, with amogans help.

Thats done without moving the mouse or changing anything, only left/right straife along that wall. Its gives a pseudo illusion to vertical movement that would happen if you were actually running and has a nice 1.6 feel to it.




So just to be clear, will we be able to turn this off, or weapon bobbing off (or together off), as you can in 1.6? I imagine the vast majority of players hate weapon bobbing as well and don't want their mouse to randomly be moving while they run.

In what way, even remotely, could it possibly be construed as an advantage?

Especially when they are building it into the game, for no reason whatsoever. And in every version but Source, you can turn it off.

One thing that I could never get into was the frickin death messages on 1.6 and cs:s. They removed the black border which was highly homosexual. And what were they thinking with that hs symbol in cs:s ?!?

And as for the inclusion of the 5 kill death message ? THAT IS SICKKKKKKKK I always wondered why valve weren't quick enough to include that in their updates to 1.6 or cs:s but then again, they were focused on making more of a commercial version of cs rather then a professional/competiton version.

I am on board for this. I started playing cs back in 2001 and really enjoyed playing the game casually and competitively (I have entered some lan competitons against national level clans and even played against an international caliber clan who has competed at cpl and wcg) My love for this game lessened when 1.6 came out but I still enjoyed playing it nonetheless. But when cs:s came out my love for the game died......only recently have I returned to 1.6 after about 3 years away from cs but it seems like their are a lot of cheats online these days :P

All in all I just wanna say thanks to you guys for all your effort......this mod looks so promising and I can't wait to see it all unfold so that people like myself can once again enjoy that game we used to love so much. Thankyou !

Yeah, that is a good suggestion MaveN as I used to make cs movies and having a command to remove the hud and not the death notices would be a fantastic feature to implement.

I'll have to agree. Since the new site was released it seemed as if the game was rlly starting to take shape etc. I was waiting for updates, news, screens, whatever. Specially considering the game should be released ( the beta that is ) within 1,5 months.
I keep checking this site everyday, and nothing ever happens ... it's just dead. Even their twitterfeed seems to have died.

I loved the updates..But something's bothering me.I loved the old GUI(HP, Armor, etc), damn, it was 1.6's!
IMO the new one has too much colour, and it just doesn't look like Counter-Strike.

I don't see the problem. Both features are hardly noticeable therefore they won't affect your gameplay at all.

these cvars mainly exist to give you more of a lean towards the classic characteristics of whatever version of cs you used to play prior to csp.
