View Full Version : de_inferno more bright
Hello,
please first note, this here is germenglish! :>
I saw all the great screenshots of all the maps, but there is one point what i a little bit dislike. It's the atmosphere of inferno, it looks like its starts to rain and become sad and dull. The older versions from 1.5 and 1.6 were much brightener (lightish) and looked MUCH better, so i would really prefer, if there is a possibility to change it to look more sunny =)

Maybe little more bright. But its not a big deal, imo. : )
I don't know about that zeng, looks alright to me. I played 1.1 and forward, and counter-strike always looked very dark and boring with the original brightness and gamma setting. The mood would change a lot by changing the 'background' image itself though, but its really not a necessary thing at all. Just use your nvidia/ati color-display settings and you'll be fine. :)

The CSP inferno looks good to me. I do know what you mean about there not being enough light, but I'm satisfied with the current version.
Or maybe I'm just a big sad emobear who likes gloomy weather.
Or not.
Im already sure that dust2 will be the best map of all, because there it looks really pleasant to me, with the brightly walls, the ground and the wheater =)

This is terrorism and counter-terrorism. It's not supposed to be happy. This is e-war, son. Get used to it :x
It can't always be a bright sunny-warm happy day to save lives, son!
de_storm, de_rotterdam, de_aztec, de_chateau
Nevermind that those aren't popular maps :0 . I think it's nice to see variety in the weather. t's really cool see gloomy weather as it matches the actions with the atmosphere. Was always entertaining to see a video of cs and as thunder is going off the frames are flashing and slow motion and all that jazz.

If the map was to look more "Sunny" then it'd have to HAVE darker shadows.
I think if the map was to be more "cloudy", then it'd have lighter shadows. :D
The difference in sunlight/weather does make a difference to the shadows, and of course, de_Inferno is meant to be seen as a sunny map.

I vote a little more bright tbh
don't base your judgement on videos, videos made it look darker than it is ;)

De_inferno isn't "meant to be seen as a sunny map". I think the creators if the map picked a random weather and designed it that way. Inferno in CZ is night time, and it looks fucking awesome. I think Inferno in source is a bit more gloomy, looks fuckin awesome. (Keep in mind im talking specifically about the atmosphere, dont bitch to me about item clutter).
Inferno has a desert surrounding. Yes it rains in deserts and yes night time occurs in deserts.
Very rarely does a map actually have a specificly chosen weather. I think it's appropriate for de_storm to have thunder going off and a gloomy atmosphere. Other than the very rare list of maps, no map is "meant to be seen as sunny"... or "meant to be seen as gloomy". That statement just doesn't make a lot of sense to me ><
Anyways, bottom line is: It's just weather so it doesnt fuckin matter! But if it's gonna be made an issue, then change the atmosphere from sunny to gloomy. I played sunny for 8 years. A change is nice every once in a while. Again though, if it's kept sunny, then i couldn't really care less.

You can always adjust the brightness and gamma for yourself...but i do think that on 1:03 of the video it's way way too dark. :o

a video is allways reworked, so i think it looks a lot darker than it actually is
In my opinion the overall feel of the map needs to satisfy two audiences, players and spectators. Therefore the lighting of the map needs to be as easy on the eyes as possible so that players are not mislead by dark spots*, but still leave the spectator with the option to improve the graphics to a level that makes the game enjoyable and demanding on the hardware.
* By dark spots I refer to in example 1.6 nuke vents, backline/alley of train which on some monitors needs a lot of tweaking to become perfectly visible.
On second hand I believe the inferno look is about right as it is now (can only judge from screenshots), but CSP devs need to really think carefully about the lighting options included with 1.04 and future releases.

You gotta think lighting effects game play ALOT, therefor some darker spots are darker for a reason. Changing lighting thus changing game play isn't something I would suggest.
Am fully aware of this, and yes, some points need to be dark for the same reason, but since in 1.6 it had so much to do with whether or not you had the right monitor / graphics card or not, I believe a solution to equal this difference out is needed. Thereby not suggesting the total annullment of dark areas and imagination on the mappers part, just that tweaking of light settings are thought about during development.

Sometimes the mood of an environment is not the only about light, but the collections of shadows, texture, and the materials which are placed on the model. Too me it does look sad and dull, but i think the cause of this dullness is the amount of grey in the materials. This is easily fixable, buy turning your contrast up a bit, so that the things you see will be much more lively.
I think the Map de_inferno is very good ! Real and not Easy, that's it .
Nice Mapping, i hope of cbble and tucsan ... azze *nooo azze haha this was joke* ? 8-)

PROTIP; ALL CS MAPS ARE PRETTY DARK UNTIL YOU BUMP UP THE GAMMA/BRIGHTNESS IN YOUR OPTIONS MENU

only problem with that: the flashes are so bright, that you have to wear sunglasses 8-)

csp_inferno has a bit of a depressing feel, whilst 1.6 inferno looks sunny and friendly
