if nvidia didn't get fucked all over with the producing they'd be the top brand now. to bad as i'm a nvidia fan. i'm waiting to see tests on the 470, if it's better than 5850 or just slightly worse than 5870 then i'm probably getting it (simply cause i like the nvidia drivers more, less messy than the ati ones)

I take whatever is better
ofc the*cost/performance ratio is important too..

It's pretty stupid to buy a graphics card with a lower cost/performance ratio just because you prefer the brand in my opinion.

Latest rumors sais that GTX 470 is slightly below the HD5850 and GTX 480 is ~10% above the HD5870. This situations depends on the game basis. If you chose nV or ATi favoured games the situation can change drastically.
GTX 480 is likely to be shipped in very limited voulmes. Working temps are very high too, chinese rumors say 90+°C in FurMark and very high temps at idle too. Fan turbine has VERY high wattage so its likely to be VERY NOISY cooling solution ;)
HD5970 is gonna remain the king of the hill. Most powerful single GPU card will be GTX 480 thats for sure...

I agree with the support, but OC depends on model. RV790 or RV8xx based cards are really good OCers ;)

I'm an nVidiafag (I've always purchased nvidia products and have a GTX 260), but ATi will have the lead for quite a long time. When the 4xx series cards are released, ATi will release the 59xx series. I'm sure the 4xx series will have better performance after about 3 months or so of improved drivers, but within those three months ATi will plan for better cards.

I've also heard that 4xx cards run hot like a bitch, but it could be that /g/'s ATi trollan has gotten to me.

we're 260 bro's <3

specs are not everything, drivers have a lot to do with how the cards perform and nvidias drivers are solid and well made. though seeing how the prices are crazy for the 400's right now i'm still gonna wait and see what happens. nvidia might fix the production problems they've been having making 470 and 480 a lot cheaper. but i dunno.

You can't use ambient occlusion and exploit smokes if your not using an nvidia card :)

Yea, GTX 400 series is one big mess from a gamer POV.
~7 months delay, nV PR hype, 60°C idle, 90°C idle dual monitor, 95+°C at full load, ultra noisy cooling solution and higher prices than HD5000 series. Just look at this vid (http://www.hardocp.com/article/2010/03/26/nvidia_fermi_gtx_470_480_sli_review/7). Play the GTX 480 vid and listen to its sound at 60% of this vid time :D
nVidia wanted to make a GPGPU and gaming product, but it didnt work. GPGPU parts of the GPU takes a huge amount of die-space => very bad thermals and vice versa.
Rumors sais that the GPGPU idea would be right if Intels Larabee generation one hasnt failed.
