Perhaps the hottest topic of discussion with regards to CSP Beta 1.04 has been a feature that's actually not in 1.04 - the upcoming model and animation fixes to be released in Beta 1.05. Many have said that they just don't know how to judge the feel of CSPromod with the Source models in there, and have been asking where exactly we are in the process of implementing the new models and animations.

Well, thanks to our brilliant animator http://cspromod.com/images/flags/uk.gif Matt "mazzer" Maslen, we're able to give everyone a window into our progress with the new 1.6-style models and animations. Take a look at the video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTBOygU-_R8) - we feel that it speaks for itself, and we hope that everyone likes the progress so far!

NINJA_EDIT: Just saw the "One more thing..." amazing death animation, looking forward to it, just make sure that the models aren't as tall as the CSS ones.

One question..After headshot animation ragdoll is ON ?

will it be possible to do the "russenduck" as we germans call or you may "double duck" with the new models?

im sooo used to doing it, that my gameplay suffers hard under the source models and btw the death animations of the source models are growse! :D

but tbh the beta 1.04 is really great work! :)

Anyway, the animations look excellent!

The HS animation is still a work in progress. Mazzer isn't quite happy about it just yet ;)

He probably said that because they look as if they're straight out of 1.6, which isn't a compliment. The models should be better looking in csp, as it's about improving the graphics right? Hope they keep in the ragdoll after the 'headshot animation'.

Quite like the rest of csp actually, alot better then expected. But then again, I wasn't expecting much.

Yeah, I missed it the first time too, I just left it open in a tab and heard it. I can see why they did it, given how excited everyone is about death animations but it would've been nice if it was before the copyright information.

wow get these into the game IMMEDIATELY that was awesome

the actual model itself is perfect, i was a bit worried when i saw screenshots of it ages ago caus it looked a bit weird but it was hard to tell in the default standing position - in motion its perfect.

crouching is like.. literally absolutely perfect
running is awesome, walking looks a tiny tiny bit off but its still great
the death needs a _tiny_ bit of work but if its not complete then fair enough!

awesome stuff mazzer!

Quite impressive. its a pitty only one model was presented, I would like to see the T one animated too even If they are animated in the same way ;d

Now it need a decent blood effect for headshot and you are done (this one is really poor, even CSS is better than CSP one ;/)

I just hope now you will do SMALL updates to the game, and much more regular so for me 1.05 should be some minor changes and bug fixes (if any will be revaled) and this models and you can procceed with 1.06 ;D

Looks great. My only suggestions are that both legs lie flat after the animation, and that after the guy his the ground, his leg twitches. I loved the twitch :D

And I know what that is - the hands are shakin' witch is stupid - after the player get the headshot, he is dead, the only reason they make the hands straight in backward-jump shot animation in 1.6, is that the CT's have elbow protectors, and if you watched many cs movies, you'll notice that after the energy throw it opposite the shot, from waist his upper body slowly fall down and make pottato-bag drop .

It doesn't matter how looks, IT DOES MATTER HOW FEELS, and the 1.6 animations FEELS GOOD, unlike Source's.
That's the reason BETA 1.04 is not so good like 1.6, though.

I'm curious to know how to animation process works.

Once you have constructed the skeletal animation can you simply copy and paste over different models? Or do you have to individually animate each model?

Also, is alba designing the models or is mazzer?

I thought that's how it would pretty much be done, considering the fact that the models should be the same size and all. If not, then it would require minimal animation edits.

The movement looks ABSOLUTELY SMOOTH which is totally awesome :)
HS anim is great too. Only the body fly distance seemed a bit short for me - its hard to compare distances in "the white box" ...

FYI the player models are being tweaked right now since the current one we have aren't bump mapped yet. The tweaks and update will fix that as well as bringing a few improvements.

Hmm well I guess we'll just have to wait and see again. I mean the 1.04 release definitely was alot better then I expected, although my expectations were pretty low :p. But if this game needs these models to get the 1.6 players to switch, I won't really care.

Didnt think I'd be saying this, but if everyone would just give it a chance for a while.. this could turn into something :p

if you own cs1.6 on steam you can download gcfscape, extract your 1.6 weapon sounds and overwrite your csp weapon sounds with the cs1.6 ones.

bout the topic:
hot update. love all the animations, except the upstanding knee in hs animation.
hit-animation and jump animation are very important as well.. hope to see that ones soon.

good job with b1.04! keep it up.

Very nice, this is what im most waitin for in promod lol, dont forget about the way they look as the player models side strafes while look in another direction as its different to the way the css models do it (ofcourse u obviously know this but i just like to make sure lol)

While in CS 1.6 I hear where the sounds come from exactly, in CSP the sounds are terrible... "box" sounds come from everywhere and I donno where should I aim at :( If you will fix it whit this animation and models part it will be a really awesome game and the pros will be play with CSpromod. [ scales, sounds, animation, models - the no.1 priority thnigs at the moment. every other things r not so important :) ]

Lookin good guys, keep it up! I'm incredibly impressed with CSP and really hope it takes over the CSS and 1.6 Communities and unites us together for bigger leagues and more LANs.

Any rough release date for 1.05? CSP just needs a little polishing aside from the models and it should be good to go for competitive play imo.

granades are too slow and imbalanced..(flash is weak,he granade imba)
dynamic recoil like in 1.6

I'm an avid 1.6 fan who has been playing CS since '01. I HATED source with a passion and quit CS almost two years ago cause of the transition. I went into CSP with my doubts but mostly with an open-mind. I think with this next update that it will definately unite alot of the 1.6 and source community together. =)

Does anyone know what is happening with the sounds?
I think once the 1.6 models and animations are added it will be a very good game however, I still have major problems with the sounds.
Footsteps are too quiet and whats with the cheesy "PWWAHWWWWMMM" sounds everywhere from flying bullets???
Sounds like some cheesy Western. It can't be that hard just to port the WAV files over from 1.6.

Do we know if they are actually working on changing the sounds???

I know it sounds like I'm flaming the game but i'm not... I actually think it is really promising :)

got good pc (2009) and nvidia drivers, i figured replicating them somehow wouldn't be hard to do but they do last seeeriosly way too long.

And for all that are saying, the shoulders should move, the body should move, etc... The Source engine is old and it can't display the animations so realistically because the old havok physics can't handle that. However Euphoria can, but that's a whole new physics technology. That's about all they'll get out of Source physics, it simply can't do more than that.

You don't know what you are talking about, sorry.

The problem with realism is that CSP teams has no tools, they are using pure skill of the animator and his imagination of the body movement, if they had a possibility to do something like motion capturing for this single one animation and a guy flying to his back you would jizz in your pants.

It is fixed joint animation probably so havoc or euphoria have nothing to do here. If those were 100% ragdoll then OK

no cheesy side strafing from source.
we want the models to pivote at the hips insted of the whole model turning ie top half looking left or right while the legs continue foward.

Also this needs to be completed ASAP as right now the game still feels like source (to a certain degree)
The new movement and recoild patterns in CSP are great but because what we are seeing is source animations it's like all your hard work is being undermimed.... thats my honnest thoughts.

I think, it is better to make death animation lasted to steam of the seconds, all rest of time for that that the model has fallen, it is necessary to give ragdoll physics. I think the best variant!!! And to mine the most effective.

Source engine uses havok physics and ragdoll physics was created by havok. It can't be done differently...

That may be a matter of opinion, but I find the current nuke waaay better.

And you know they aren't perfecting css right, csp has been coded from scratch except for the source engine itself. They also can't just copy models and textures from 1.6 for release like in that old preview video due to copyright issues.

I love the animation. I don't mind the absence of moving shoulders, it's fine as it is really. The duck animation is the best one imo.
The walking seems a bit weird though, there's something wrong with it, but dunno what. :) It's not as smooth as the others. The motion is too rigid? If that's the correct word to use.

Good luck with your ProMod guys, coming from an avid 1.6 fan. :)

all the anims in the vid look a bit different now for one reason or another, with most changes to the walk. they were created with the idea of keeping the upper body fairly static. Every one has differing opinions of what is correct/incorrect looks nice/not nice, perfect or not. imo at the end of the day there is only a certain amount of time i can spend on each anim getting it to look true to some kind of initial concept within my capabilities. also i beleive whilst i try to make every anim i make the best that i can, there also must be a cut off in terms of something being functional and spending an infinite amount of time trying to make it look 'better'.

When im playing games, looking at them from the viewpoint as an animator, most of the time if something works well im not too worried if something doesnt look like i might think it could or should look(unless its really awful :)) Don't get me wrong, thats not to say i dont really enjoy great anims in a game or that i dont beleive great anims can make a good game better, cause thats awesome. But im just not sure that alot of the time ppl care too much if they just 'work' in certain types of computer games. (eg. cs ladder climbs, maybe there is no focus on a multiplayer character (3rd person character model)climbing a ladder due to its effects on the first person control/gameplay. But in a 3rd person action game it might look strange for your character to just slide up a ladder as it does in CS, and the game might have gameplay mechanics built around climbing/haning swinging movement etc that is a whole other area than just looking at your character climbing in a beleiveable way up a ladder. Now cs isnt the only fps to ignore ladder climbing and i dont think most players really care about it, they just wanna get up the ladder asap and get on fragging.) I always remember some ppl complaining when cs went through a change in its animation back in the earlier beta days, but at the time actually looking back at the previous version after the change it was clear to see how much worse the previous ones were and that perhaps ppl had just been used to the way they were despite any faults. I think the anims look fine in game though and im sure most people who see things they dont like from the videos so far will not notice them or just forget about them when they play and get used to 1.05. I hope so anyway :) in terms of smoothness some of that might be due to the loop on the video (tho i doubt thats all of it), in some places it was not a smooth transition on some body parts, but that is just where i copy and pasted it and didnt check every looping section as we were trying to get the vids out the door for 1.04 release time.

blaaaaaah that wasnt meant to be very long but i just got carried away, thats my take on it anyway.

1. your english isn't that bad after all.
2. the leet you see in the media section got a overhaul. (generalüberholung)
3. the bots which you have in csp beta 1.04 are only in for testing, so I don't think there will be any AI implemented.

lol, well the devlog is going to mainly consist of a video and once it's been captured in game it will take redstar a few days most likely to sort out the editing etc, at the latest we'll record the footage on the weekend i think. Originally i was going to devlog some processes involved in making the anims, but i think it would be far better to just show a video which is more relevant and of greater interest. Afterall i would only have written about anim stuff if there was a lack of things to show, seeing as we are doing a video, i see no point in padding out the forum.

that would only be possible if i kept some kind of video diary or had videos of the various stages, and i dont :) and there would be many, too many. i might do a 2 part devlog, with the video then some blurb.

unfortunately there were some problems with the recording and redstar is away on holiday now for a bit so this IS GOING TO BE DELAYED :) hopefully now when we can record it again, it will also be at a more complete stage, as work is on going to improve the implementing of the anims in game. btw the problems were only with smoothing the recorded demo, not game problems :)
