Attica-Gaming.com are looking to sponsor the creation of an all new classic battleground for CS:S. We would like to put this out to tender to the CS: Source map-making groups. Prize: a new Quad core gaming computer + 120hZ monitor. Closing Deadline 31st Aug 2009..
Amongst the competitive community there are perhaps as little as 5 preferred maps that teams like to play. For some, even Dust2 is beginning to wear thin - Inferno is probably the new king of team-based CS:S. Many others have simply not stood the test of time in playability, team-based functionality, etc...
So this brings me to the question; is everybody happy with the current list of maps chosen and played at LAN/online leagues? (Are we rather limited?)
As ever, there's more questions...
Would the whole of the CS:S competitive gaming community consider getting behind a competition to find, design and implement the next mutha' of all playable maps? We could all choose the winners after a playtest trial.
Maybe the whole excercise is deemed pointless, but surely the best way we can extend the life of CS:S is to start producing some truly great new arenas - exciting & challenging maps that can support the 5 v 5 experience.
There's some talented designers out there who have recreated a plethora of fun maps and there's been a few competitive maps that have been successful. However, it's once again, time to really think about what makes a map popular.
